I would like to thank everyone for the encouragement, support, cards, and prayers I received for my recent bypass operation. It must have helped because everything went smoothly and I feel wonderful!
We have an excellent opportunity to build additional bridges with the Rochester area Vegetarian Society (RAVS). Several of our members, including myself, are members of both OSGGR and RAVS. On November 16, RAVS is having a special meeting for us where all the share-a-dish dinners will meet the Ornish guidelines. RAVS meets the 3rd Sunday of the month at the Brighton Town Park Lodge on Westfall Road at 5:30 P.M. where they normally share vegan dishes and then have a formal speaker at 7:30 P.M.. Vegan means no ingredients from animal products. The Ornish diet which allows skim milk and egg whites need not apply. Meanwhile the vegan diet which has no restriction on oil, margarine, nuts, seeds etc. does not cut it either for the Ornish diet. Therefore, on November 16 we will have Vegan-Ornish meals which is the Ornish diet without any animal products. To people not familiar with this type of cooking it may seem like you will be eating ugly. But, I assure you, from someone who has gone to several Vegetarian's meetings the food is delicious.
Put the date on your calender. Come and try it for yourself. The featured speaker at 7:30 P.M. will be myself and Allyson Prace and the subject will be the one week Ornish retreat that we both attended.
Attend RAVS
Vegan-Ornish
share-a-dish on November 16th.
Our Next Meeting...is on Monday, September 8th at our new location. It will be a great meeting! Is that a thought or a feeling? If you are not sure then you need to come. In fact, even if you are sure come anyway because Dr. Bob Klein will be reviewing Chapter 8 in Dean's book on Reversing Heart Disease and adding his own insights. Bob, who is the medical advisor on our steering committee, taught Psychosomatics at UR Medical School. It is impossible to read Chapter 8 and not believe that psychosomatics, or mind-body interaction is not a factor in heart disease and probably every other disease as well. Bob will invite volunteers from the audience to role play communication skills which will be fun and educational. To quote from Chapter 8, "Any action has the potential to lead us toward more intimacy or more isolation - at every moment of the day."
So bone up on Chapter 8 and we will see you on September 8 at our new location at Monroe Community Hospital.

MISSION STATEMENT OF OSGGR
(Ornish Support Group of Greater Rochester)
We of the Ornish Support Group of Greater Rochester believe the results of the Ornish study are important and that heart disease can be reversed by following the four areas discussed in Dr. Ornish's book:
1. Diet 2. Exercise 3. Stress Reduction 4. Psychosocial Support
It is our intent to proactively share with members of the Greater Rochester Community who can benefit from the healing importance of the four areas, our success stories, our healthy programs, and our approaches to taking responsibility for our own health .
